Booster Meeting Agenda - May 6, 2008

PAST EVENTS:

 

Music Showcase – Amazing day! Lots of work and looooong hours, but lots of fun. So many people to be thanked for all the time and energy they put into this. Thank you also to our chairs Denise Johnson & Debbie Wade for the awesome job!

 

Chula Vista Competition – Congratulations to Decibelles for 1st Place! Musicianship & Showmanship!! Congratulations to Powerhouse, Sound Sensations, Sound Waves, and Men @ Work who all placed 2nd in their divisions. Also congratulations to Powerhouse for also receiving the Showmanship Award.

 

Workshops and Auditions – The bar has been raised! The quality of auditions this past Saturday was the best seen in years by all three adjudicators, Mr. Jennings, Ms. Oundjian and Mrs. Rago! 240 people auditioned.

 

CURRENT EVENTS:

 

Audition Results - Results will be posted on the website (JBHSVMA.COM) late in the evening on Saturday, May 10th.

 

In-debts – Students who owe money for choir will not have their audition results listed on the website this weekend unless they pay their debts by this Friday. In addition, seniors will not be able to purchase prom tickets if they have in-debts.

 

Elections for Booster Executive Board – The following people were nominated and unanimously voted in for these executive board positions for the 2008-2009 year:
Presidents: Debbie Wade and Kieth Stevens

Financial Secretary: M'Lisa MacLaren

Treasurer: Sue Orbison

Recording Secretary: Teresa Maynes

Student Statements: Berit Cole

 

A heartfelt thank you to Debbie Stevens our outgoing president....don't worry, she'll still be around, she will be a parent of a senior next year and wants to make sure she has time for that!

 

Another heartfelt thank you goes to our outgoing Financial Secretary Jackie Kelley!

 

Thank you so much to both of these ladies for the countless hours they have given to this choir.

 

Vice Presidents - Some changes are being made to the role of vice president. Each choir will now have two vice presidents. These jobs will have specific assignments including chaperoning the choir on trips, purchasing makeup and other costume items, etc. If you have an interest in being a VP for your child's choir (even though you don't know what that choir will be yet.....) please e-mail Debbie Wade (dwade56@charter.net) and let her know.

 

Chairmanships - We have openings for the following chair positions. Some of these are due to vacancies and some are because we want two people in a certain position. Please e-mail Debbie Wade if you are interested in any of the following chairs:

Props & Sets

Tickets (needs a helper)

Transportation & Buses (needs a helper)

Discussion - A discussion was held on ways to promote/encourage the participation of new parents. Suggestions such as contract points, merchandise, tickets, reserved seats etc. were given as all ways to motivate and/or reward parents for volunteering their time. If you have any thoughts on these suggestions or any new suggestions please e-mail Debbie Wade (dwade56@charter.net).

 

UPCOMING EVENTS:        

 

White's Studios Portraits - May 13 - ALL CHOIRS – at Johnny Carson Park @ 3:30 p.m.

This is a photo shoot for all the choirs. Group, individual, & buddy photos will be taken and are available for purchase (pre-order). Envelopes were distributed at the meeting and should be available still through Mr. Jennings.

 

Attire for Photos:
Powerhouse – Pink/Purple/Green choir outfits

Sound Sensations – Tropical choir outfit

Sound Waves – Turquoise choir dress / Yellow choir suit

Decibelles – Pink choir dress

 

Spring Concert – May 16 -This is a concert where the first half consists of classical sets by each choir and the second half is the last time each choir will perform their competition set. Also, at the end of the performances, all the new choir members will be announced and called up to the stage.

 

Tickets will be $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors and will be for sale at the box office the evening of the show. We need sign ups to help with concessions, flowers & security. Also we will need parents to help collect classical set costumes at intermission. All students (except Powerhouse non-seniors) will need to turn in their classical costume at this event.

 

Rehearsals will be next Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15. These are dress rehearsals. One day will be a classical set rehearsal, the other will be showchoir set rehearsal. We are not sure as to which rehearsal will be Wednesday & which will be on Thursday. As soon as it is determined Mr. Jennings will announce it to the class.

Banquet - May 21 - The choir banquet is for all choir members and their families. It is a lovely buffet dinner held at the Castaways in Burbank. Attire is as dressy as possible! Jackets for boys, semi-formal for girls. Ticket order forms are available on the JBHSVMA.com website. Pre-order is $35 per person (includes admission & dinner) and must be made by May 9th. After that the price goes up. Shelly Benedict (dmommy@pacbell.net) is the coordinator for this event and she will need help with set up, decorations, people to work the raffle table, etc. Prizes will also be raffled off for the students. We are still looking for donations for these items. Things like gift cards for i-Tunes, Jamba Juice, movies, and items like DVDs, CDs, etc. are always appreciated. Donations can be dropped off with Shelly or with Lisa Reynolds (dialedin2@sbcglobal.net).

 

Goodbye and Thank You – to our senior parents who were at the meeting, Bonnie Popp and Susan Dexter. You will be missed!!!!
