A Cappella Jam
An Evening of A Cappella Music Performances

Friday, January 29, 2010 7:00 p.m.

The John Burroughs High School Vocal Music Association invites the community to their "A Cappella Jam" on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium of John Burroughs High School in Burbank, CA.  The school is located at 1920 W. Olive Ave. Burbank, CA 91506 and admission is $5.00 per person.

A Cappella JamA cappella has been transformed in recent years into a vibrant and rapidly changing form of music incorporating virtually any style. And with that change has come an a cappella renaissance. Today, a cappella is still using the same core instrument - the voice - but in ways that are totally different than the past, especially in the area of voice as the percussion instrument. Evidence of this renaissance is seen on college campuses all across the country. "A Cappella Jam" will showcase some of the top Southern California University a cappella vocal groups, including USC's Trojan Men and Reverse Osmosis, UCLA's Random Voices and CSUN's Acasola performing their amazing styles of vocalization. Two of John Burroughs' own a cappella choirs, Vocal Ensemble and The Muses will also perform this evening, along with Providence High School's Providence Singers.

As an added bonus to the entertainment, at intermission, there will be a panel discussion on the college application process with current JBHS seniors who have already been accepted at universities across the country, including MIT and Wellesley College in Boston, American University in Washington DC, University of Michigan, University of San Francisco and more. It should be a great evening of musical performance, interaction and information.

"A Cappella Jam" will be on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the John Burroughs High School Auditorium, 1920 W. Olive Ave., Burbank CA 91506. Admission is $5.00 per person.
